I am part of Macclesfield: I grew up next to South Park and went to Park Royal school and Fallibroome High School. Now I live up near Buxton Road, which gives me a chance to walk in the countryside every day. You might see me on my bike round town or off to work. Please feel free to come and chat to me.
Working as a Catalyst For Business
Working now as an IT Developer supporting start-up Science & Technology companies: I understand the needs of Cheshire Business and the importance of keeping world-leading innovation in the area.
I also continue to organise successful creative community projects, events & artworks, some seen across Europe, including summer evening town centre get-togethers at the 2018 Barnaby Festival.
Life Lessons Learnt Working in Education
I have experience working for a better society. I spent 7 years working in schools: most of that time in some of the poorest areas of Britain. There I saw, first-hand, the positive transformative effect of a Labour government for working people and after 2010, the destructive effects of the Conservatives and austerity.
Bringing pride & success with the New Macclesfield Town Council
Since being elected to the new Macclesfield Town Council, I have built a profile as someone who takes action representing my home ward, South Macclesfield. I have shown that, with even the smallest amount of representation, Labour in power can make important changes in our constituency.
I am responsible for initiatives that bring pride to the town and change the conversation including award-winning participatory community projects, a Youth Summit and ‘the Macc Plaques’ celebrating real social histories next year.
We have shown the value of strong community working together: supporting community policing, services and initiatives to improve quality of life across Macclesfield in the face of cuts. While the Cheshire East Conservatives talk-up grand plans, Labour Town Councillors are actually taking action on the infrastructure and support needed for our new town centre.
Labour listens: Working as your representative, I have been responsible for setting up popular Listening Events to meet the public and changed surgeries to be where people are. I have helped establish a ‘You said, We did’ approach meaning action is taken to get local people’s ideas into policy. Taking one example, as a result of listening, the Town Council is now organising a town Pride Event for everyone.
We can win for Macclesfield
Standing as Parliamentary candidate for the area in 2017 was one of the proudest moments of my life.
Our strong grassroots Labour campaign showed how much better our area could be if our politicians listen to what local people want, and we increased our share of the vote by 14.1% to almost 20,000 votes.
More importantly, people in the constituency have a glimpse of how Labour in Macclesfield will help build better lives for everyone. We have the ideas and energy to transform our towns to make them work well.
The impact of our grassroots campaign going out speaking to people in our communities means we now have more supporters all the time and the growing expectation that we can win for Macclesfield.
